We had a rough night Saturday night. We had a babysitter and when we called on our way home she said Pierce was still up and said he wasn't feeling well. So it was 11 o'clock before he went to bed. A little after 12 we wake to him screaming and crying. He runs out of bed and throws himself on the floor. He is still really upset and the only thing I can think to do is hold him as tight as I can and comfort him because I think he's hurting and don't know what is wrong. He freaks out when I try to hold him, gets out of my arms and throws himself agains the door and then runs down the hallway. This goes on for a while until he finally goes back to sleep. We are then up with him about every hour the rest of the night. The next morning I call two friends for advice and questions because I was thinking of taking him to doctor because he did say his throat hurt and I thought he must be sick after last night. When I tell Lindsay about the first episode in the night, she says 'are you sure it wasn't a night terror'. My response was no, he's never had one and he was awake and said mommy. However, I was really bothered all day by this episode and looked up night terrors on the internet. Bingo, this was it. It said the worst thing you can do is console them and that they won't remember a thing, it usually happens 1-4 hours after they go to sleep and when they are over tired. It also said their eyes are open but they really aren't awake and they won't remember it the next morning. When Pierce saw his eye in the morning, which this picture is 5 days later and looks so much better, he asked how he got it, he had no recollection of running into the door. Crazy...this is one of those things that no one tells you about or you don't listen because you think it sounds to crazy to be real. Anyways, no more since and I think the rest of the wakings that night were because he didn't feel well, needed water, etc. Hopefully we will not be revisiting this any time soon.

Weighing in at...
Holt had his one year checkup today. He weighed 23 lbs 7 oz and was 31 1/2 inches tall. A whole two pounds heavier than Pierce was at a year. He is slightly shorter but they are both definately following in their daddy's footsteps with height. He was down for the count tonight after no afternoon nap, I think the 4 shots and his fourth molar coming in did him in.

Happy 1st Birthday Holt!!
.jpg)
Today is Holt's 1st birthday. This year has flown by, we can't believe he's already one. He's such a bundle of joy and this age is really fun. He just took a few steps last night for the first time, but I'm guessing he will still prefer crawling for a bit longer. He also just starting clapping and waving and loves doing patty cake. His brother is working on teaching him to talk but right now he just enjoys making sounds. We celebrated his birthday with Coleman, his buddy from our old neighborhood, their bdays are 2 weeks apart and we had a family party this weekend. He loved the cake! I think it was gone in three bites both times. Happy Birthday Holt!
Fun Day

Daddy had the day off Monday. Pierce got the morning out with daddy since he's usually here with me until Holt gets up from his nap. They went to Charlotte at Play, and met Pop at one of their favorite restaurants for fried seafood. Then we all headed to the Park together. Pierce is trying to get the hang of his bike he got for his birthday.

One...going on three

So this is a daily activity these days. As soon as we go upstairs they both head for the bathroom. It started out when Pierce would be brushing his teeth, Holt would climb up too and scream until I brushed his and handed him his toothbrush. Now Pierce’s newest thing is filling up the sink with water and playing in it. Holt soon joins in the fun. And mom and dad let them do it because its our first glimpse at them entertaining themselves while playing together.
Along with this, Holt wants to do everything his big brother does. People ask ..is Holt really similar to Pierce? It looks yes, in personality not a thing. I love it though because they are both so different but special in their own way. Pierce has always been very careful and cautious. It takes him a few tries and encouragement to do something new. He is extremely neat, guess he takes after his daddy on this one. He also has his daddy’s engineering mind and loves putting things together and thinking through what he is doing. He has his mommy’s mouth and never stops talking and always has questions. He loves books and would let me read a few books at a time since he was probably six months old. He still takes 3 hour naps many of days and sleeps great at night.
Now, Holt has no fear. His favorite place to be is climbing up the stairs or on the fireplace hearth. His first interest when he started crawling was electrical outlets. He puts everything in his mouth! Pierce never put small things in his mouth. He loves to eat and loves to make the biggest mess in the process. I never understood why people said they had to bath their kids after they eat...now I do. He climbs everything, stools, boxes, Tupperware, you name it. Sleep, well who needs sleep. Actually he does great at night now. But I think he’s slept past 7:30 once and past 6:45 is a really good day. And while Pierce still takes a 3 hour nap many of days, Holt never has in 12 months. An hour is usually all he needs. Books..he loves them but just for a second and then he hands me a new one. He usually shuts it by the second page and is on to the next or is eating the book.
So there’s a little glimpse into each of my boys, we look forward to seeing how they change as they grow up...just not too fast.

Trash Day!

Thursdays are a big day at our house. For those of you who don’t know Pierce is obsessed with trash trucks. We wakes up on Thursdays asking if the trash truck has come. All day Wednesdays he ask if tomorrow is trash day. He knows when Gran and Pop’s trash day is. We even had a 3 yr. old trash truck birthday party. So as soon as we hear the trash truck or recycling truck on Thursday mornings we bolt to the window to watch its every move..and guess who follows right behind him.

'Creative Play'
So I decided tonight for a change I would actually get changed for small group and even put on some makeup. We have small groups on Wed night at church and Jason meets us there. So I usually try to feed the boys and bath them before we go. By the end of the day and after doing this I usually am wearing some of their dinner along with their runny noses on my shoulders and who knows what else. Not to mention some of my clothes are wet from being splashed during bath time. Why should water stay in the tub? But I thought maybe I’ll actually change tonight and not look like I have been taken over by two small boys. So how was that to happen? I let the boys ‘play’ in my bathroom while I got ready. See the above picture. And don’t worry, they weren’t painting their nails. Holt preceded to take every bottle of fingernail polish and anything else he could find out of the cabinet and hand it to Pierce who would then line them up across the vanity. They enjoyed it and I was able to get changed and ready, I’m learning if their happy and it works, go with it.
Anyone have an extra stereo?
Our poor Honda. They only value left in it was stolen, the stereo. We just don’t have good luck with our Honda’s do we? Our last one the whole thing was stolen. So I guess we are much better off this time. I must of picked out a good stereo system in college or someone was just really hard up, probably the latter. I think it’s almost time to retire her.

Twins?
My first blog..
Jason created this blog for me at Christmas, but I have yet to post. Well, I did once but accidently deleted it when I went to edit it. I am a little intimitated by the blog world. One because I am not very good at technical computer things that may be required. Secondly, because I have these amazing friends who have the most incredible blogs and I thought mine needed to look like that. But, God is teaching me as a mom that we are all unique and have our strengths and weaknesses and as you will see mine may not be journaling or staying on top of this. But I'm going to try it and see where it goes from here. I think it will be fun to share our life with friends and family and have something to document this fun, yet crazy stage of life we are in. I am working tax season so it may be a rough start with frequent posts but I will do my best. Enjoy! Hope thanks for motivating me to finally start this.
