We had a rough night Saturday night. We had a babysitter and when we called on our way home she said Pierce was still up and said he wasn't feeling well. So it was 11 o'clock before he went to bed. A little after 12 we wake to him screaming and crying. He runs out of bed and throws himself on the floor. He is still really upset and the only thing I can think to do is hold him as tight as I can and comfort him because I think he's hurting and don't know what is wrong. He freaks out when I try to hold him, gets out of my arms and throws himself agains the door and then runs down the hallway. This goes on for a while until he finally goes back to sleep. We are then up with him about every hour the rest of the night. The next morning I call two friends for advice and questions because I was thinking of taking him to doctor because he did say his throat hurt and I thought he must be sick after last night. When I tell Lindsay about the first episode in the night, she says 'are you sure it wasn't a night terror'. My response was no, he's never had one and he was awake and said mommy. However, I was really bothered all day by this episode and looked up night terrors on the internet. Bingo, this was it. It said the worst thing you can do is console them and that they won't remember a thing, it usually happens 1-4 hours after they go to sleep and when they are over tired. It also said their eyes are open but they really aren't awake and they won't remember it the next morning. When Pierce saw his eye in the morning, which this picture is 5 days later and looks so much better, he asked how he got it, he had no recollection of running into the door. Crazy...this is one of those things that no one tells you about or you don't listen because you think it sounds to crazy to be real. Anyways, no more since and I think the rest of the wakings that night were because he didn't feel well, needed water, etc. Hopefully we will not be revisiting this any time soon.
